'Flute Day' (2-days) in Eivissa-Ibiza, Spain

On March 7th and 8th, Wil Offermans has been in Eivissa (Ibiza) to present his Flute Day at the '1ª Trobada de Flauta d'Eivissa i Formentera' for flute-students from the islands of Ibiza and Formentera. Organizing institutions were Conservatori Profesional de Música i Dansa d'Eivissa i Formentera and the Govern de les Illes Balears (Conselleria d'Educacio, Cultura i Universitats). The final presentation concert on Sunday 8th March at the Conservatorio Profesional in Ibiza included Offermans' pieces like: Luna y Sierra, Kojo-no-Tsuki, Thumpy, Jungle Dance and more. 'Flute Day' (3-days) in Saint Omer & Calais, France

This February 6th, 7th and 8th, Wil Offermans was in the Saint Omer and Calais area in northern France, for three days of flute events at various locations. Organizing institutions included the La Comédie de L'Aa, Conservatoire á Rayonnement Départemental Musique, Saint Omer, Conservatoire de Calais, L'École Notre Dame Griffon. The final presentation concert was on Sunday 8th Febr. at 16:00 in Salle Emile Zola, Wizernes/Saint Omer and included Offermans' pieces like: Luna y Sierra, Kojo-no-Tsuki, Thumpy, Honami, Tsuru-no-Sugomori, Bamburia, Itsuki-no-Komoriuta and Dance with Me.

Concert Tour Japan Autumn 2014

From November 12th until 28th Wil Offermans was on tour in Japan with Junko Ueda (voice, satsuma-biwa). Below are some videos of this tour. Among their activities were:

  • November 14th: a most unique concert by Duo Ueda Offermans with singing monks of the Obaku-shu sect at the occasion of '360 years arrival of Ingen' at the Kofukuji Temple Nagasaki.
  • November 23rd: "Flute Special Live, Japan vs Holland" a duo concert with Kazushi Saito (first flute Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra), Otsuka Greco Live House, Tokyo
  • November 24th: Flute teaching at Sankyo, Ikebukuro, Tokyo.

World-premiere "Eternal Winds" • 585 flutists Mega Orchestra

On 9th Nov. 2014 the world premiere of Eternal Winds by Wil Offermans was performed by a mega-orchestra of 585 flutists - a mixture of orchestral flutists, professionals, flute-students, amateurs and children - in a sold-out TivoliVredenburg, Utrecht (Holland) at the Netherlands Flute Academy 5th anniversary concert (directed by Emily Beynon, 1st flutist of the Concertgebouw Orchestra Amsterdam). Offermans conducted the work himself. Other performers in this concert includes: flutist Emily Beynon, soprano Roberta Alexander, all round musician and flutist Thijs van Leer, percussionist Niels van Hoorn and trumpet player Eric Vloeimans. Flute Day in Waspik (Waalwijk), The Netherlands

On October 11th, 2014 Wil Offermans presented a Flute Day for the flute students of the institutes of Aleph Heusden: H19 Oosterhout; Kunstpodium Dongen, Gilze, Rijen; and the Kunstencentrum Waalwijk. With workshops in the morning and rehearsals later on the day, about 30 flute students finished the day with a presentation concert with pieces by Wil Offermans, including: Luna y Sierra, Kojo-no-Tsuki, Thumpy, Made in Japan, Dance with Me and Jungle Dance. Duo Ueda Offermans concert at Academy d'Ete, Nice, France

On August 7th the Duo Ueda Offermans (Junko Ueda: biwa and voice; Wil Offermans: flutes) performed a duo concert for the Academie Internationale d'Ete de Nice at the Conservatoire de Musique, Nice. Flute Summer Course 2014, Spain

The 23rd international Flute Summer Course 2014 by Dutch flutist-composer Wil Offermans has been held from July 23th until 30th, 2014 in Sayalonga (Malaga), Spain with participants from Austria, Cuba, Denmark, Germany, Lebanon, Mexico, Netherlands, Spain, Switzerland and the UK. In this wonderful and inspiring ambiance and a climate of dynamic nature and cultural inspiration Offermans conducted the course, sharing his contemporary approach on flute playing with the participants. Main literature was Offermans' etude book For the Contemporary Flutist (published by Zimmermann a.o.). Other topics included extended techniques like circular breathing, bamboo tones, harmonics, multi-phonics and whisper tones; sound development; body movement; improvisation in performance and education; ensemble playing; ethnic flutes. Flute Day in Meckenheim (Bonn), Germany

On March 28th and 29th, 2014 Wil Offermans presented a Flute Day for flute students of the music schools of Meckenheim, Meckenheim, Rheinbach, Swisttal (Bonn-area) in Germany. On 28th they started with a workshop for more advanced students (about 35 students). Next day was the Floetentag for about 60 students. After several workshops the day ended with a presentation concert, which included: Luna y Sierra, Kojo-no-Tsuki, Thumpy, Tsuru-no-Sugomori and Jungle Dance. Click here to see the photo report.

Masterclass at the Royal Northern College of Music (RNCM) in Manchester. The program included: For the Contemporary Flutist, Tsuru-no-Sugomori and Honami.

March 20: Just Flutes / Jonathan Myall Music, Croydon, London
Flute classes at Just Flutes / Jonathan Myall Music , Croydon, London for students of Cris Hankin. The program included: Just a Short Version, Voices of Nagasaki and Bamburia.

March 21: Guildhall School of Music, Barbican, London
Masterclass at the Guildhall School of Music, Barbican, London. The program included Tsuru-no-Sugomori and Honami.

March 22: Hampshire Flute Day, Romsey, Hampshire
On March 22nd 2014 Wil Offermans conducted the Hampshire Flute Day at the Lantern Theatre in Romsey, Hampshire. The final presentation concert included: Luna y Sierra, Jungle Dance, Kojo-no-Tsuki, Thumpy, Tsuru-no-Sugomori and Dance with Me. See photos of the event here. Flute Days at Music School Köttmannsdorf, Austria

On February 22nd & 23rd Wil Offermans was a guest at the Music School Köttmannsdorf in Carinthia, Austria, to present his Flute Day project. During the two days they worked intensely with a group of students and flute-teachers from Carinthia and other parts of Austria. The final presentation concert on Sunday 23rd included Offermans' pieces like Luna y Sierra, Bamburia, the Thumpy flute, Kôjô-no-Tsuki, Dance with Me and Tsuru-no-Sugomori. Maaslandse Flute Days in Maaseik and Neeroeteren, Belgium

On November 16th & 17th Wil Offermans conducted the Maaslandse Flute Days for the music schools of Maaseik, Lanaken, Dilsen-Stokkem and Maasmechelen in Belgium. On saturday there were masterclasses for advanced students and flute-teachers as well as a concert in the auditorium of the Music Academy Maaseik. The concert program included Luna y Sierra, Tsuru-no-Sugomori, Voices of Nagasaki, Etude 3: Bamboo Tones, Bamburia, the Thumpy flute, Kôjô-no-Tsuki and Dance with Me. On sunday there was a Flute Day for all levels with a presentation concert at the end of the day in the Cultural Centre Neeroeteren. See the two photo reports of these days here.

Children Flute Days, Vilvoorde-Brussels, Belgium

On October 29th and 30th, Wil Offermans presented a Flute Day for young children for the Jeugd & Muziek (Youth & Music) in Vilvoorde (Brussels), Belgium at the music school of Vilvoorde. Some of the children already had started playing the flute, however others had never played the flute before. During the two days they worked mainly on games also using Offermans Thumpy flute as a way to introduce the flute and to learn to create a flute sound. They also worked on Bird Songs.
